Huawei has launched yet another Windows Phone 8 device continues the series of Ascend W smartphones. Earlier there was Ascend W1, while now the company has just launched the Huawei Ascend W2 which is also a WP8 budget phone. The phone will target the budget WP8 smartphones introduced by Nokia which are more value-savy and have achieved better sale figures in development countries.
The Huawei Ascend W2 is budget smartphone with a 4.3 inch IPS LCD screen, the display has a normal WVGA resolution which is 480 x 800 having 217 ppi pixel per inch density. The display is multi touch and is capable of recognizing the sensitive touch like the one found in Nokia Lumia devices. That means with such a display you can use your smartphone even if you are wearing gloves. The Huawei Ascend W2 is bulky and heavy than the smartphones with the same size display, The device measures 134 x 67 x 9.9mm, it’s almost the size of a 5″ phone and weighs 160g.
Under the hood there is a Quad Core 1.4 GHz Snapdragon MSM8230 chipset Krait CPU which is supported with an Adreno 305 GPU and 512 MB of RAM. The RAM is quite less than what Smartphone has in recent times but the fact is that the Windows Phone 8 OS doesn’t consume too much of RAM of a smartphone as compared to the Android device which eats all the RAM. Beside this the Huawei Ascend W2 has an 8GB built in memory and more disappointingly there is no slot for microSD card so that means you have to live with 8 GB of memory available on the device. Anyway, the Ascend W2 comes in several color options (that’s the strength of the WP lineup, right?), from standard Black to Blue, Red and Yellow.
The device has a 5 megapixel shooter that can shoot HD videos at 720p and can take clear HD images as well. There is no signs of any secondary camera. The smartphone will be available in 3G connectivity models having the WiFi antenna as well. The Ascend W2 will have the latest Bluetooth 3.0 on bard while there will be a microUSB 2.0 slot for charging and data transfer. Beside this there will be a 1,700 mAh battery to power the device.
The recent press release by the company has stated that the 3G version of the device will be made available in Russia and Netherlands in November 2013 while the device will head for other European markets by the start of December. The device has been spotted in China earlier as it was a full Chinese variant of the Huawei Ascend W2.
