Is PayPal the Most Convenient Payment Method for Apple Users?

I do a lot of online shopping and gaming (what can I say, I don’t like humans much…) and in my experience, the introduction of digital wallets and payment services has made things so much easier over the years. Perhaps a little too easy, but no matter.

Sometimes, all it takes is a couple of clicks and you’re done. Using a service like PayPal is safe and there’s always an extra level of security check these days, which adds to the feeling that your money is being taken care of.

That said, I was curious to know whether PayPal was the most convenient payment method for Apple users, whether online gaming or otherwise – so I took a look, and here’s what I found.

Paypal for iPhone

What is PayPal?

Let’s just take a quick look at what PayPal is and a potted view of its history:

PayPal

Safety of PayPal for online gaming and shopping

I’ve found that PayPal is excellent at making sure I’m safe online when shopping and gaming. It’s a trusted method and simple to use from my iPhone and Mac. I’ve always been able to book vacation accommodation and pay for thrift clothes I’ve bought from eBay without an issue.

When it comes to gaming (which I love) there are even new PayPal casino games cropping up all the time that use the platform for payment—making it easy and safe to play online slots and casinos within safe, responsible limits.

All my transactions are monitored safely so that fraud, identity theft, and any suspicious behaviour can be picked up on and dealt with immediately. This is, I’ve found, super important when you’re gaming, more than anything else. This still means it’s an attractive and easy choice for Apple users too and shouldn’t cause them any issues when switching between devices either.

How easy is PayPal to use on a Mac?

I’ve never had an issue with PayPal on my Mac – or my iPhone, the app is very intuitive and user-friendly. All I need to do is link up my bank account (or debit and credit card) and then I’m good to go – even changing card details is easy if you need to do that.

The app is easy to use on the go – great if I’m out and about, and want to game whilst I’m killing time waiting for my inevitably late friends to show up, too. I’ve always been able to send and receive money easily as well.

How does PayPal perform market-wise?

So I did a little bit of research on this and it does seem that PayPal is still the major winner when it comes to market share – and the number of people who use digital payment methods and wallets to pay for their goods and services.

It still tends to win out slightly over other digital payment methods like Apple Pay – but that is only because the latter is only available to use on that brand’s devices. That’s absolutely no shade to Apple at all – as their products are an all-round win-win – but PayPal can be used on Mac and Windows PCs as well as most types of Smartphones.

But Apple Pay is starting to creep up the ranks in terms of use – mainly with iPhone users. However, the majority of iPhone users will still rely on both methods of payment for different things – for instance, they’re more likely to use PayPal for eBay and online gaming than they are for other things like paying for dinner at a restaurant.

PayPal’s privacy options for Mac users

The last thing I want to talk about is online privacy – something that most of us are concerned with – or have had to deal with at some point during our online lives.

PayPal does take safety really very seriously for Mac users and uses encryption and secure servers to protect any data that’s been shared with them. However, one thing to bear in mind is that PayPal will share financial information with merchants – so consider that whenever you make a purchase.

So whilst PayPal is currently the market leader – and doesn’t look like it’s going to be usurped at any time soon, Apple Pay is still gaining traction and popularity amongst some users.

If you’re considering using one over the other, for the moment it looks like PayPal is the safer bet – it’s more adaptable to different devices and still offers super cool safety features if you’re buying goods or using it for online gaming.

Whatever you choose to make your online payments, stay safe, play responsibly, and know your limits. Always better to play safely and securely, than not at all.
