Download and Install AOSP-Based Android 4.4 KitKat On Nexus 4 & Nexus 7. [ Guide ]


Google has just announced there recent Android update the Android 4.4 KitKat pre loaded in the new Nexus 5 device. The developers has promised that the older Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 devices which were launched in 2012 and 2013 respectively will get the official update to Android 4.4 KitKat.

But we are lucky with the old team of Paranoid at the XDA developers community which comes up with the early AOSP ( Android Open Source Project) ROMs will give the same pure Stock Android 4.4 KitKat taste on your Nexus 4 smartphone and the most acclaimed Nexus 7 tablets.  In this guide we will let you know how to download and Install AOSP Android 4.4 KitKat on Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 devices. All you have to do is follow these steps given below.

One thing to mention is that these early AOSP ROMs are build quite early so most of them lack the capability to utilize the hardware of the device correctly this can cause in slowness of your device or a fast battery drainage along experiencing too much lag in your device. Before Download and Install you need some pre-requirements before injecting the new AOSP ROM in your Google Nexus 4 or the Nexus 7.


1-  Make sure you have the Nexus 4 or Nexus 7 (2012 or 2013)
2- A custom recovery such as ClockworkMod or TWRP installed. (For Nexus 7 (2012), TWRP 2.6.3 or later is required, as there have been issues flashing with ClockworkMod.)
3- Download any of these appropriate AOSP 4.4 ROM for your device: Nexus 4,  Nexus 7 (2012)Nexus 7 (2013)
5-  Google Apps package (grab the latest one for Android 4.4)

How to Install Android 4.4 KitKat ROM on Nexus 4 & Nexus 7:

Step 1-> First of all make sure to transfer  both the ROM and the GApps package to your device.
Step 2-> Now Reboot the device into recovery mode.
Step 3-> make Sure to backup your device before flashing the new ROM
Step 4-> Perform a full data wipe (factory reset). Also wipe cache and dalvik cache using the appropriate sections of your recovery.
Step 5-> It’ll also be a good idea to format the system partition using the appropriate option in your recovery.
Step 6- >Install the ROM, followed by the Google Apps package.
Step 7-> Reboot your device.

Here you go Now you have the latest Android 4.4 KitKat up and running on your Google Nexus 4 or Nexus 7. Make sure to reboot your device in case if you get some application launching errors. We recommend 3-4 reboots to get the ROM settled and all features starts working.
