Facebook announced today that it will update its main Android app as well as Facebook Messenger for Android, the opportunity to message your pals is pushed towards the forefront, as Facebook has added a fresh Messenger button within the upper-right-hand corner of the News Feed, for faster usage of see who’s available for chatting from within the app. A simple swipe to the left inside the app again accomplishes quite similar thing. Facebook touts that the update is likely to make the app more reliable and secure, with fewer frustrating reboots and bugs.
The main difference, however, is the redesigned interface for conversations. It basically apes Apple’s iOS design for text conversations. Facebook’s claim is always that it’s meant to make it simpler for you to tell who’s saying what, as currently all conversation within Messenger is at one News Feed-like stream. Aesthetically, the update makes sense.

What’s in this version:
– Swipe left anywhere in the app to quickly see who’s available and send a message
– Add friends you message most to the top of your Favorites
– Try texting with Messenger (currently only available on some phones)
– New design for conversations
– Improved speed and reliability
