The iOS 7 is on the verge of official release but we have seen many iPhone and iPad users already running the Beta versions on their devices. The iOS7 Beta version have been found consuming more battery than the older iOS 6.1.3. I have installed the iOS 7 Beta 6 on my iPhone 4S and found that my iPhone’s battery timing has been dramatically dropped up to 50% the discharge rate was quite fast as compared to the previous iOS 6.1.3.
This was because of the new dynamic features loaded in iOS 7 which consumes more power than we anticipated. The iOS 7 looks calm surfaced, flat and quite firmware but it actually eats the battery out with its over brilliant animated effects and features even in general settings that we used to set in previous versions.
When I dig deep in to the whole matter I found that this iOS 7 drains the battery more on push notifications, 3G connectivity, Wifi background usage and background GPS activities. So I decided to optimize the iOS7 system settings to reduce the battery consumption when I don’t really use my phone. This really works and I managed to regain the battery timing which I used to have in previous iOS 6.1.3 version.
Follow these steps which will let you know how to optimize your iOS 7 to increase your iPhone or iPad battery.
1- Remove Unwanted app notifications:
You may have tons of Apps and some of them have notifications enabled which results in draining your battery out quicker. You can easily remove the unwanted apps notification from the settings menu by following these steps:
click on Setting> Notification Center > then find any apps that you won’t like the notifications from You can simply turn off the notification button infront of it as shown in the image below.
2- Disable unused features from the General Settings:
You can optimize your device and make it more battery friendly by disabling some unwanted settings which mostly run in background especially if you are not fond of Siri better to disable it.
For this you have to go to Settings>> General >> Siri click on disable it . Another feature I spotted among the battery suckers is the “Spotlight Search” you can disable it as well, this will save a lot of battery.
The “Background App refresh” settings must be optimized to get the most out of your battery performance. You can select the apps that you won’t need to be running in the back ground. You can simply disable all of them and this will block apps from running in background and consume RAM and battery. Go back and tap “Restrictions” and disable any features in there you may not use like “Game Center” options, “Multiplayer Games” and “Adding Friends”. This will not only save battery, but also RAM as well.
3- Select Auto Screen Brightness and turn off dynamic effects:
The iOS 7 brightness control works best on Auto brightness and it is also better option for to save the battery. It also ensure the brightness which is always comfortable for the eyes. Next to it is the “Choose Wallpapers” option, you must select the stick wallpapers and remove any dynamic or panoramic wallpaper to lower the battery consumption. This will increase your phone’s battery timing by double.
4- Disable GPS and Location Services:
This can be done by clicking Settings>> Privacy>> Location Services. You can simply disable any location services you don’t need. You have the option to disable it for the whole apps at once or choose the unwanted app. There has been a bug which runs the GPS in the background in the current Beta version of the iOS 7. This will be surely get removed in the future stable version of the iOS7 which is expected to get fixed in the GM version as well.
Beside this you may also tap on “System Services” and disable any systemlocation services you don’t need running in the background. If you don’t care to use this feature, disable “Frequent Locations” as well. Tap back twice and tap the “Advertising” field at the bottom. Enable “Limit Ad Tracking” as the less GPS usage you can get, the more battery you will save.
5- Optimize iCloud to reduce battery usage:
iCloud is also an app that drains your phone battery if it is not optimized properly. You can access iCloud settings by tapping on Settings >>> iCloud, here make sure that you enable only the most important features like contacts or calendar syncing. Disable anything you don’t use like documents and data this will save a lot of Phone data and enhances battery life of your phone.
6- Reduce Background Running apps
You must keep in mind that any app you open will start running in background and will occupy some space in your cache no matter you jump out of it. This will continuously eat your RAM and consequently your device’s battery as well. So closing back ground apps is one more important tweak to increase your battery timing.
You must also keep an eye on “iTunes & App Store” settings, make sure to Disable the iTunes Match feature and also the Automatic Download feature. The auto synchronizing feature must also be tapped to off. This will reduce both the RAM and Battery consumption.
These above tips will surely reduce the power consumption of your device and you will feel a clear difference in your device battery timings, either it is iPhone or iPad or any other Apple device loaded with iOS 7 Beta.
