Spinosaurus Grow a Garden: Value, Ability, Rarity and How to Get It
The Spinosaurus in Grow a Garden is a Divine pet that hatched from the Primal Egg at just 0.5% odds — and its Food Chain ability does something no other pet does: it strips mutations from three of your fruits and stacks all of them onto a single one. One well-timed roar can turn a good crop into the most valuable fruit in your garden.
This guide covers exactly how Food Chain works, how rare the Spinosaurus really is, what it’s worth in trades right now, and how to get one now that the event it launched in has ended.

What Does the Spinosaurus Do? Food Chain Explained
Every ~20 minutes, the Spinosaurus activates its passive, Food Chain:
- It devours a random mutation from 3 different fruits in your garden — those fruits lose the mutation it took.
- It roars and applies all of those mutations to one single fruit, stacking them together.
- When choosing the target fruit, it prioritises your favorited crops — so if you’ve favourited a fruit with the Favorite Tool, the stack is aimed there first.

Why does this matter? In Grow a Garden, a fruit’s sell price multiplies with every mutation it carries. Three separate fruits each holding one decent mutation are worth far less than one fruit holding all three at once. The Spinosaurus is a concentrator: it sacrifices spread-out mutations to build one monster fruit.
Two conditions to know: it needs at least 4 fruits in the garden to activate (3 donors plus a target), and it only works while the Spinosaurus is active in your garden.
Spinosaurus Value and Rarity
Divine is the top standard rarity tier in Grow a Garden, and at a 0.5% hatch rate, the Spinosaurus was the joint-rarest pet in the Primal Egg — on average, you’d expect to hatch around 200 Primal Eggs to see one, and plenty of players opened far more without luck.
That scarcity carries into trading. On our Grow a Garden value list, the Spinosaurus sits at around 200 Sx (sextillion Sheckles) with a solid 7/10 demand rating — top-ten pet territory, ahead of the T-Rex (65 Sx) and behind only the true giants like the Raccoon and Disco Bee. Because the Pet Mutations event has ended, no new supply is entering the game, which helps its price hold. Pet values in Grow a Garden still swing with events and demand, though, so always cross-check a live value list on the day you trade — and never trade one away for the first offer you get.
How to Get the Spinosaurus in Grow a Garden
During the Pet Mutations event, the Spinosaurus came only from the Primal Egg, which you could:
- Craft using a Dinosaur Egg, a Bone Blossom, and 5,500,000 Sheckles, or
- Receive from the upgraded DNA Machine by trading in pets.
A regular Primal Egg takes about 4 hours 10 minutes to hatch (the Premium version bought with Robux cuts that to ~30 seconds).

Today: the event has ended, so Primal Eggs can’t be crafted anymore. Any Primal Eggs still sitting in inventories can still be hatched — a 0.5% shot is a 0.5% shot — but for most players, trading is now the only realistic way to get a Spinosaurus. That’s exactly why its trade value has held up.
Best Way to Use the Spinosaurus (And Spinosaurus vs T-Rex)
- Favourite your best crop. The stack prioritises favorited fruit, so mark your highest-value plant with the Favorite Tool and let every roar land there.
- Keep mutation donors growing. Plant cheap, fast crops that pick up environmental mutations (Wet, Chilled, Shocked and so on) purely to feed the Spinosaurus — it needs 3 mutated fruits per activation.
- Don’t run it in a bare garden. Fewer than 4 fruits and Food Chain simply won’t trigger.
Players often compare it to the other Divine dinosaur, the T-Rex — but they do opposite jobs:
| Spinosaurus | T-Rex | |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Primal Egg (0.5%) | Dinosaur Egg (0.5%) |
| Ability | Takes mutations from 3 fruits, stacks them on 1 fruit | Takes a mutation from 1 fruit, spreads it to 3 fruits |
| Best for | Building one ultra-valuable fruit | Spreading a rare mutation across the garden |
Want one super-fruit to sell or show off? Spinosaurus. Want a rare mutation everywhere? T-Rex.
FAQs
What does the Spinosaurus do in Grow a Garden?
Its Food Chain passive triggers roughly every 20 minutes: it devours a random mutation from 3 fruits in your garden, then roars and applies all of those mutations to one other fruit — prioritising fruit you’ve favourited. This stacks multiple mutations onto a single crop, multiplying its value.
How rare is the Spinosaurus in Grow a Garden?
Very. It’s a Divine pet with a 0.5% hatch chance from the Primal Egg — a 1-in-200 chance per egg, making it the single rarest pet in that egg (the next rarest, Ankylosaurus, is 1%).
Can you still get the Spinosaurus in Grow a Garden?
Not from new eggs — the Pet Mutations event that let you craft Primal Eggs has ended. Unopened Primal Eggs in players’ inventories can still hatch one, and the practical route for most players now is trading for it.
What is the Spinosaurus worth in Grow a Garden trades?
Around 200 Sx (sextillion Sheckles) on our Grow a Garden values list, with 7/10 demand — and the Huge variant trades for much more. Values move with demand and events, so confirm the current figure before you trade: our full Grow a Garden values list tracks what every major pet is worth.
Is the Spinosaurus better than the T-Rex?
Neither is strictly better — they do opposite jobs. The T-Rex spreads one mutation from a fruit to three others; the Spinosaurus concentrates mutations from three fruits onto one, favouring your favorited crop. For maximum single-fruit value, the Spinosaurus wins; for garden-wide mutation coverage, pick the T-Rex.
The Spinosaurus earns its Divine badge: a 1-in-200 hatch, an ended event, and an ability that can pile three mutations onto your best fruit every 20 minutes. If you own one, favourite a flagship crop and feed it donor mutations. If you’re hunting one, trading is the way in — just check live values first so you don’t overpay.
