Why V-Bucks Got More Expensive in 2026

If V-Bucks feel pricier than you remember, you’re right. On March 19, 2026, Epic Games raised the effective price of V-Bucks through “shrinkflation”: pack dollar prices stayed the same, but every pack grants fewer V-Bucks than before. The $8.99 pack dropped from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks (a 20% cut in buying power), and the “exact amount” option doubled from about $0.50 to $0.99 per 50 V-Bucks.

Epic said the change was needed because the cost of running Fortnite has gone up. Alongside it, Battle Pass costs were adjusted (the standard Battle Pass now costs 800 V-Bucks), and Fortnite Crew subscribers now receive 800 V-Bucks per month instead of 1,000.

What Can You Buy With V-Bucks?

V-Bucks are spent in the Fortnite Item Shop and on passes: a Battle Pass costs 800 V-Bucks, most skins range from 800 to 2,000 V-Bucks, emotes run 200–800 V-Bucks, and pickaxes and gliders typically cost 500–1,200 V-Bucks.
