Apple Unveils First Touchscreen MacBook Pro With PROLED XDR Display in 2026
Apple has finally put a touchscreen on a Mac. At its Pro and Tell event in Los Angeles on October 28, 2026, Apple unveiled the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, the first Mac with Touch built in. According to Apple, the new laptop pairs a tandem OLED display with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, a thinner and lighter design, and up to 24 hours of battery life. Preorders opened on October 28, and the laptop will arrive in stores and to customers on Friday, November 6, 2026.

The headline change is Touch itself. Apple says the touch sensor is built directly into the display panel, rather than layered on top of it, which is meant to reduce latency so it feels like you are touching the content itself. Everyday gestures work the way Mac users would expect: swipe to scroll through a webpage, pinch to zoom in on a photo, drag slides from one presentation to another, or double tap a window to fill the screen. Apple also says macOS translates touches into clicks, so many existing apps work with Touch right away, while developers can add dedicated touchscreen controls through updated gesture tools.
For professional users, Apple is pitching Touch as an extra tool, not a replacement for the keyboard and trackpad. Graphic designers can draw directly across the full display instead of being limited to the trackpad area, musicians can play software instruments onscreen, and app developers can test how Touch behaves in their iOS and iPadOS apps right on the MacBook Pro display. Apple lists Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook among the everyday apps taking advantage of Touch, along with Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, and Algoriddim djay Pro. Its own Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro, and Final Cut Pro gain Touch controls through Apple Creator Studio.
The display is the other half of the story. Apple calls it PROLED XDR, a tandem OLED panel with two self-illuminating pixel layers. It reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content, offers a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and uses ProMotion with an adaptive refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz. The panel covers both the P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, with more than 80 percent coverage of Rec. 2020, according to Apple, and an optional nano-texture finish etched into the cover glass cuts reflections and glare. Apple chief hardware officer Johny Srouji called it a monumental step forward for the Mac and the best laptop display Apple has made.
The notch is gone, too. The Dynamic Island, first seen on iPhones, now comes to the Mac as the home for Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI, where users can search, control music, answer calls, and see timely updates at a glance. The new models are also thinner and lighter than before: the 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than its predecessor, while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, 0.7 pounds lighter than before. Inside, buyers can configure up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, and a headphone jack, plus Wi-Fi 7 and a six-speaker sound system, according to Apple. The laptop runs macOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.
Pricing starts high, and it climbs steeply from there. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and M5 Pro starts at $2,899 in the United States, while the 16-inch M5 Pro model starts at $3,399. M5 Max configurations start at $4,499 for the 14-inch model and $4,799 for the 16-inch model. For buyers who tick every box, the bill gets much bigger: MacRumors reported from Apple’s configurator that a fully loaded 14-inch model prices out at $14,249 and a fully loaded 16-inch model at $14,549, with the 16TB storage option alone adding $7,000. Those top-end figures are configurator prices reported by MacRumors, not a separate Apple list price.
What does this mean for readers? If you were waiting for a Mac with a touchscreen, this is the one Apple has actually shipped, and the November 6 date means the wait is days, not months. But buyers should not confuse this model with the other MacBook Pro Apple announced the day before. The separate entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip, priced from $1,999, keeps the older Liquid Retina XDR display and has no touchscreen. The touchscreen model is a different, more expensive machine built around the PROLED XDR panel, and it sits alongside the existing range rather than replacing every MacBook Pro.
The touchscreen MacBook Pro is also a test of how far Apple can push premium laptop pricing. A starting price of $2,899 is already well above most Windows laptops, and the configurator ceiling above $14,000 shows how expensive high-end memory and storage have become. For professionals who need a reference-grade portable display, it may justify the price. For everyone else, waiting for hands-on reviews is the sensible move.
Apple’s first touchscreen Mac is real, it is on preorder now, and it lands on November 6. The question now is whether Touch on the Mac becomes a daily habit for professionals, or a premium extra that most buyers admire and skip.
Apple’s October also included its Welcome Home smart home event on October 13, where it showed its first smart home hub, a refreshed HomePod mini, and a new Apple TV 4K.
