Chaos Zero Nightmare Tier List: Stop Stressing (Literally)

Look, we need to have an honest conversation about Chaos Zero Nightmare Tier List CZN.

Most gacha games are simple: you pull the shiny S-Rank character, you level them up, and you win. CZN doesn’t work like that. You can have a maxed-out 5-star character, but if their deck synergy is trash or they suffer a “Mental Breakdown” halfway through a run because you ignored the Stress meter, you are done. Game over.

I’ve spent way too many hours in the Dimensional Twilight banging my head against the wall to let you make the same mistakes I did. You don’t just need “strong” characters; you need characters that respect your Action Points (AP) and don’t brick your hand when you really need a shield.

That is why I put this Chaos Zero Nightmare Tier List together. This isn’t just about raw damage numbers—it’s about consistency. Because in a roguelike deckbuilder, consistency is the only stat that matters.

How We Rank The Nightmares

Before you look at the list, understand the criteria. A unit might be S-Tier in a standard fight but B-Tier in Chaos Mode CZN because they rely too much on specific “Epiphanies” (card upgrades) to function.

We look at three things:

  1. AP Efficiency: Does this character do their job for 1 AP, or do they eat your whole turn?
  2. Deck Economy: Do they draw cards? Veronica is S+ because she keeps your hand moving. In deckbuilders, card draw is king.
  3. Stress Management: Can they end fights fast enough to prevent a Breakdown, or do they have built-in sustain?

Her AoE is difficult to activate, and optimal damage depends on stacking Reload. However, her excellent card-draw mechanics and consistent damage each turn make her extremely reliable and useful everywhere.

The “Big Three” Explained (S+ Tier)

You probably noticed Mei Lin, Khalpie, and Veronica sitting at the top. There is a reason for that, and it’s not just hype.

Mei Lin is your boss killer. In CZN, you often run into enemies with massive health pools and high “Tenacity” bars. Mei Lin applies Weakness stacks effortlessly. When you break a boss’s tenacity while they are weak to her element, she doesn’t just damage them; she deletes them. If you rerolled for her, you’re set.

Then there is Veronica. I call her the “AP Cheat Code.” Her ability to trigger follow-up attacks (Ballista shots) means she deals damage without spending extra Action Points. Plus, she draws cards. If you have played Slay the Spire, you know that “0-cost damage + card draw” is the strongest mechanic in the genre.

Khalpie is the tank you didn’t know you needed. Most tanks just sit there. Khalpie generates shields while dealing AoE damage based on her defense. She solves two problems at once: keeping your Stress meter low by blocking damage, and clearing out the trash mobs that clutter the screen.

Don’t Sleep on the 4-Stars

I see so many new players ignoring Mika and Beryl because they aren’t “Gold” rarity. Big mistake.

Mika is arguably the most important unit in the game right now. Why? AP Generation. She is one of the few units that can actually give you Action Points back. In a game where you are starved for actions every turn, Mika is arguably more valuable than half the 5-star roster. If you don’t have her built, stop what you are doing and fix that.

A Warning About “Chaos Mode”

You will see some characters ranked lower in Chaos Mode specifically. That is because Chaos Mode is a marathon, not a sprint.

Characters like Renoua (who is amazing at single-target nuking) can struggle in Chaos Mode if you don’t draft AoE cards early. If your deck gets too bloated with single-target attacks, you will get swarmed by mobs in the later Acts.

Always prioritize “deck thinning” whenever you see a Shop or Campfire. A small, consistent deck with B-Tier units will beat a bloated, messy deck with S-Tier units every single time.

Final Thoughts

This Chaos Zero Nightmare Tier List will shift. New banners like Sereniel and Chizuru are coming soon, and they will likely shake up the meta. But for now, if you stick to the S and A tiers on this list, you will stop failing runs and start farming Epiphanies like a pro.

Do get the updated version of the game for the latest Tier List rankings. Manage your Stress, count your AP, and good luck in the Nightmare.
