Redeem in one sitting rather than drip-feeding. 11,900 gems and 31 skill crystals in a single block is enough to make a real decision with — a genuine reroll plus a meaningful summon run. Five hundred gems at a time gets spent on whatever is in front of you.

Do not hoard. Unlike a trading game, there is no late-game purchase here that rewards saving. Gems compound through the army you build with them, so gems sitting unspent are doing nothing.
