Dirpy: How to Convert a YouTube Video in 3 Steps (2026)

Dirpy is an online tool that lets you convert a YouTube video to MP3 or MP4, and many people also search for it as Dripy. This guide shows how to convert a YouTube video using Dirpy in 3 simple steps, plus what to do when the free version does not work.

The site calls itself an “Internet DVR”. You paste a video link, pick audio or video, and the site records the file for you to save. Before you start, read the note on availability below, because the site currently limits YouTube access for free users.

Important: Dirpy and YouTube Right Now

When we checked the site, a banner at the top of the home page said that YouTube conversions are currently reliable for paid Dirpy Premium or PRO users, and that free user access is still intermittent. When we loaded a YouTube link as a free user, the site showed an error saying YouTube is currently unavailable for free users and to try again later.

That means the steps below may work only some of the time on a free account. If you see the error, try again later, or consider Dirpy Premium.

How to Convert a YouTube Video Using Dirpy (3 Steps)

Quick overview:

  • Go to the site and paste your link
  • Wait, scroll down and click Record
  • Save the file

Step 1: Go to the site and paste your link

Open dirpy.com, copy the link of the YouTube video from your browser’s address bar, and paste it into the box that says “Enter Video URL or Search Term”. Then click the dirpy! button.

Step 2: Wait, scroll down and click Record

After a few seconds, a busy page appears. Scroll down and choose your format with the drop-down menus (for example MP3 for audio or MP4 for video), then click Record Audio or Record Video. A box pops up to tell you the file is processing.

Step 3: Save the file

When processing finishes, the file downloads to your device. If you want to share it, save it to Google Drive and post a share link.

Which Format Should You Choose?

  • MP3: best for audio only, such as music or a lecture you want to listen to on the go.
  • MP4: best when you need the picture as well as the sound.

It also advertises a Batch Downloader for up to 20 files at once and a Premium plan, both shown on the home page.

Use This Converter Responsibly

Only convert videos that you own, that are licensed for reuse, or that you have permission to save. YouTube’s Terms of Service generally do not allow downloading videos unless YouTube provides a download button or link. Respect creators and copyright, and never redistribute other people’s work.

Not Working? Quick Fixes for Dirpy

  • You see the free user error: wait and try again later, or use a paid plan.
  • The page is stuck: refresh, then paste the link again.
  • The wrong video loads: copy the link from the address bar of the exact video, not from a playlist.
  • The download will not start: allow downloads for the site in your browser settings.
