Starward: Mecha Girls is a 3D arena fighter built around GVG-style combat, and your choice of pilot matters as much as your aim. With dozens of mecha girls on the roster, each with her own weapons, movement style, and COST value, picking the wrong unit can leave you outgunned before the match even starts.

This Starward tier list ranks every currently available unit from S to D based on overall performance across 1v1, 2v2, and Arcade modes, drawing on community consensus and up to date meta analysis. The rankings below are updated for October 2026.

How This Starward Tier List Works

Units are ranked by damage output, mobility, defensive tools, and how well they perform in both casual and competitive play. Keep the COST system in mind: every unit costs between 3.0 and 1.5, so you cannot simply stack four S tier units in a team. Strong players often pair one or two top tier units with solid A or B tier picks to stay within the COST budget.

Rarity is listed next to each unit name, but rarity alone does not decide placement. Plenty of Uncommon and Rare units outperform Legendary ones. For full unit stats and frame data, check the Starward Wiki.

Starward Tier List S Tier: The Best Units

Tier Units
S Rhine (Legendary), Nameless (Legendary), Shadow (Legendary), Akigumo (Legendary), Aida (Rare), Darkstar (Rare), Cammy (Legendary), Rota (Legendary), Ether (Legendary), Thunderbolt Otome (Uncommon), Galahad Dawn (Uncommon), Angelis (Uncommon), Kaze (Uncommon), Haruka (Uncommon)

S tier units dominate the current meta. They combine high damage, reliable mobility, and strong defensive options, and they stay effective no matter which mode you queue into. Several of these picks prove that low rarity units can sit at the top of the Starward tier list when their kits are this complete: Aida, Darkstar, Kaze, and Thunderbolt Otome all hang with the Legendary roster. If you are building a competitive team, start here and work down the COST budget from these names.

A Tier: Strong and Reliable Picks

Tier Units
A Keep The Dead Alive (Uncommon), Ffreedo (Uncommon), Sharp (Uncommon), Longinus Beta (Legendary), Cherub (Legendary), Virtues (Rare), Orchid (Rare), Galahad (Rare), Aisling (Rare), Nora (Uncommon), QiuYu (Legendary), Rasiel (Legendary), Hikari (Legendary), Siren (Legendary), Elfin (Legendary), Cavalry (Legendary), Convallaria (Legendary)

A tier is where most team compositions on this Starward tier list get filled out. These units are strong across the board but usually have one small drawback compared to the S tier, such as lower ammo efficiency, a shorter effective range, or a kit that needs more practice to unlock.

Elfin and Hikari are excellent long range harassers, while Cherub and QiuYu reward aggressive play with parries and teleport mixups. Any of these units can carry matches when paired with a good teammate. For more anime fighter rankings, see our Anime Vanguards tier list.

B Tier: Solid but Situational

Tier Units
B Griffin (Legendary), Scorpion (Rare), Seraph (Rare), Aliz (Uncommon), Valkia (Uncommon), Xiaoling (Uncommon), Lancelot (Legendary), Kitty (Rare), Yammyn (Common), Gourai-Kai (Uncommon), Deucalion (Rare), Zakharova (Rare), Krista (Rare), Qingni (Rare), Cygnus (Uncommon), Breaker (Rare), Borzoi (Rare), Pallas (Rare)

B tier units in this Starward tier list are perfectly playable but sit below the meta line for one reason or another. Some, like Scorpion and Zakharova, have strong tools but risky kits that can backfire. Others, like Lancelot and Griffin, look great on paper but lose out to direct competitors in the same role.

Valkia and Xiaoling deal real damage up close but get punished hard by ranged pressure. These units shine in casual lobbies and niche team compositions, just do not build your whole strategy around them.

C Tier: Below Average, Use With Caution

Tier Units
C Hibiki (Rare), Snow Owl (Common), Sky Saber (Uncommon), Stylet (Rare), Emika (Rare), Franca (Rare), Reki (Uncommon), Ine (Uncommon), Baselard (Uncommon), Iva (Uncommon), Katerina (Common)

C tier units have real flaws that hold them back. Hibiki cannot reload most of her weapons naturally, Snow Owl crumbles the moment anyone gets close, and Stylet is too fragile for how little damage she deals at range. Sky Saber is extremely dependent on her teammate to create openings.

These units are playable if you love their playstyle, but expect to work harder for every win, much like the weaker picks in our Blox Fruits tier list, and avoid spending upgrade resources on them early.

D Tier: The Weakest Units, Avoid If Possible

Tier Units
D Beta (Rare), Dragoner (Uncommon), Roland (Common)

D tier is the bottom of the barrel. Beta has almost no mobility outside of the basic kit, Dragoner is an easy target thanks to her oversized hitbox and inability to block in flight mode, and Roland is painfully weak without her Unleashed State active. These three units need buffs or reworks before they can compete. Do not invest in them unless you have exhausted every other option.

Best Overall Unit in This Starward Tier List

Our pick for the best overall unit in this Starward tier list is Rhine. Her Everlasting Dragon passive permanently upgrades her weapons over the course of a match, so she only gets stronger as the fight goes on. Roar of the Dragon travels fast enough for reliable follow up attacks, and her evolved Prelude fires three powerful gerobi beams in a cone for huge area pressure.

Wings of the Dragon blocks lock on attacks for built in self defense. Rhine is self sufficient at range, dangerous up close, and scales naturally without relying on a teammate. Nameless is a close runner up thanks to her YOTO System mobility and lifesteal, but Rhine edges her out on consistency.

Starward Tier List FAQ

What is the best unit in Starward: Mecha Girls?

Rhine is the strongest overall pick in the current meta, thanks to her permanent weapon upgrades, fast projectile follow ups, and lock on defense. Nameless, Shadow, and Akigumo round out the top tier of Legendary units.

How does the COST system work in Starward?

Every unit has a COST value of 3.0, 2.5, 2.0, or 1.5, and your team has a limited total COST budget. You cannot stack only the strongest units, so balancing one or two S tier picks with efficient A or B tier units is the key to a legal and effective team.

Are low rarity units worth using?

Yes. Rarity does not decide the tier. Units like Aida (Rare), Darkstar (Rare), Kaze (Uncommon), and Thunderbolt Otome (Uncommon) all sit in S tier, while several Legendary units are stuck in B tier. Judge units by their kits, not their rarity.

How often is this tier list updated?

This list is current as of October 2026 and reflects the latest balance state of the game. Starward receives regular updates with new units and balance changes, so check back after major patches, since rankings can shift when a strong unit gets nerfed or a new one arrives.

Pick one S tier unit, learn her combos, and the wins will follow. Good luck out there, pilot.
