Tarkov Weapon Tier List: Best Guns Ranked (2026)

This Tarkov weapon tier list ranks the best guns in Escape from Tarkov by balance, ammo options and how well they hold up across a wipe. The MK47 Mutant, SIG MCX-SPEAR and DT MDR take the top spots, with the HK 416A5 and AS VAL right behind.

Tarkov is different from most shooters, because a weapon is only as good as its attachments and its ammo. A cheap gun with the right rounds can beat an expensive one that you cannot afford to lose. We used the games.gg ranking and added the AUG A3 from a French Dexerto list, plus budget picks for early in a wipe. None of our sources confirm the date of the current wipe, so check the official patch notes.

How We Rank Tarkov Weapons

  • Balance: damage, recoil and ergonomics that work together without heavy investment.
  • Ammo options: weapons that can use strong ammunition for their caliber rank higher.
  • Cost: early in a wipe, a cheap gun you can afford to lose is worth more than a premium one.
  • Modding depth: a weapon with many good attachments scales better into the late game.

Tarkov Weapon Tier List (2026)

The Tarkov weapon tier list below has four S-tier rifles and two A-tier picks. The source did not rank any weapon below A, so we show budget recommendations in their own row.

Best Tarkov Weapons, Explained

  • MK47 Mutant: described as the most balanced assault rifle, with strong damage and manageable recoil. With BP ammunition it becomes a two-tap weapon against most armor classes.
  • SIG MCX-SPEAR: an endgame platform that needs Lightkeeper access and performs well with high-tier attachments.
  • DT MDR: a compact bullpup that delivers rifle-caliber power and needs few modifications.
  • AUG A3: known for accuracy, low recoil, reliability and ergonomics, according to a Dexerto France list.
  • HK 416A5: consistent performance with deep modification options.
  • AS VAL: built-in suppression and SP-6 rounds suit stealthy, close-range ambushes.

Best Budget Weapons for Early Wipe

  • AKM: a low-cost, capable rifle that shares 7.62x39mm ammunition with the Mutant, so you can learn one ammo type.
  • UMP .45: low recoil and affordable, but weak beyond about 50 meters.
  • PS ammunition: works well in early wipe fights, when armor levels are still manageable.

How to Choose a Tarkov Weapon

  • Match your gun to your budget, because losing a premium kit on a bad raid hurts more than missing a tier.
  • Learn one caliber well first, since shared ammo between the AKM and Mutant makes the upgrade easy.
  • Pick a suppressed weapon like the AS VAL when your plan is a stealthy close-range ambush.

Where This List May Be Out of Date

The main source was last updated in December 2025, and its translated versions show an update in April 2026. Tarkov’s meta shifts with every major patch and wipe, so a rifle ranked A today could move after an ammo or armor change. Use the list as a starting point and check the latest patch notes.
