DONT SPLASH Monster: How It Hunts, How Many & How to Survive
The DONT SPLASH Monster is what turns a simple obby into a horror game. It lives in the water, it can’t see you, and it reacts to every splash. Here’s how it hunts, how many you’ll face on each difficulty, and how to get past it.
What is the monster in DONT SPLASH?
It has no official name yet; the game’s tagline just says IT KNOWS. In the current Halloween version it has a pumpkin-like head and long arms, and it moves through the water between the platforms and columns. When it grabs you, its mouth opens in front of the camera and a red overlay covers the screen.
How it finds you
- It is blind. A sign on the wall says it hears the water.
- Falling in, clipping the surface or landing badly makes a splash it reacts to.
- Loud machinery, such as the maintenance valves, also draws it.
- Standing still does not hide you if you’re already close.
- It can grab you while you’re still in the air, so jumping over it is risky.

How to survive
- Distract it. Throw a pebble far from your route. It skips and splashes several times, and the monster chases the sound.
- Stun it. A flare hit stuns it for about 5 seconds. After that it can’t be stunned again for about 8 seconds, so don’t waste a second flare.
- Use a bottle for a big lure. One loud splash at the landing point.
- Time the jump. Distract or stun first, then jump. Never the other way round.
- Rescue friends. If a teammate goes down, the rescue rope pulls them back. It doesn’t affect the monster.

Is DONT SPLASH scary?
Yes, a little. The tension comes from the sound design and the jumpscare when the monster grabs you. There’s no blood or gore. We’d suggest it for about 10 and up; younger kids may find the grab scary. Parents can read our safety guide.
