Balance patches change Call of Duty weapon tiers every few weeks, and a new release resets the meta, so we also point you to what is happening in the next game.

Best Call of Duty Weapons, Explained

• Swordfish A1 (marksman rifle): the top pick in the Season 3 ranking.
• Sturmwolf 45 (SMG): the best SMG for close and mid-range fights.
• Hawker HX (sniper rifle): the sniper to use if you want long-range picks.
• Voyak KT-3 and MK35 ISR (assault rifles): the two assault rifles that make the top group.
• Melee weapons: the Knife, Ballistic Knife and Katana all sit in A tier for fast finishers.

Picking a Weapon by Class

• Assault rifles: Voyak KT-3, MK35 ISR, M15 Mod 0, Peacekeeper Mk1 and AK-27.
• SMGs: Sturmwolf 45, RK-9 and Kogot-7 for aggressive play.
• Marksman and sniper rifles: Swordfish A1, Warden 308 and M34 Novaline, plus Hawker HX and Strider 300.
• Shotguns and LMGs: the M10 Breacher and MK.78 reach B tier, so they are worth using in the right mode.

What About Modern Warfare 4?

A newer Call of Duty is on the way. Dexerto’s early Modern Warfare 4 weapon wiki, published on October 6, 2026, lists the M4, ISO Nightshade and KG-7 Vulcan in S tier. Those rankings are early and come from pre-release content, so we will not mix them with the Black Ops 7 list above.
