Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Brings Edgerunners 2 Content on October 22, 2026
CD Projekt Red has announced a surprise new update for Cyberpunk 2077. Update 2.5, officially titled the Edgerunners 2 Update, launches on Thursday, October 22, 2026, bringing new items and features inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the anime series that premiered on Netflix this week.

The studio revealed the update on October 20, the same day all ten episodes of Edgerunners 2 arrived on Netflix. In posts on social media, CD Projekt Red confirmed the update adds content “inspired” by the anime, teasing “new Edgerunners, new chrome, new playstyle.” Among the confirmed additions are cyberware customization and a brand new dual-wielding playstyle that lets players carry a weapon in each hand. Full details arrive today, October 21, during a special episode of REDstreams, the studio’s livestream show, airing at 5 PM CEST (11 AM ET / 8 AM PT) on YouTube, Twitch and Steam. Complete patch notes will be published the same day.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is a standalone sequel to the acclaimed 2022 anime, produced by CD Projekt Red together with Japanese animation studio Trigger. The new season follows a fresh cast of characters through a story of vengeance and redemption in Night City, and it landed to strong early buzz from anime fans.
The new season is directed by Kai Ikarashi with returning collaborators including showrunner and writer Bartosz Sztybor, and it tells a fully standalone story, so newcomers can jump in without having seen the original. Netflix dropped all ten episodes at once, which is why the conversation around the show exploded overnight.
The timing is no accident. When the first Edgerunners season aired in September 2022, it sparked a massive player resurgence for Cyberpunk 2077, and CD Projekt Red paired it with a major free update that added themed clothing, new weapons and fresh gigs. The studio is clearly running the same playbook again, betting the new season sends players back to Night City.

That makes the update a genuine surprise. CD Projekt Red had previously signaled that major Cyberpunk 2077 content updates were finished. The last patch shipped in July 2025, and the team has been shifting its focus to new projects, including the Cyberpunk sequel now in development. A substantial free update for a game approaching its sixth anniversary says a lot about how seriously the studio takes the Edgerunners effect. With the game past 40 million units sold, Night City keeps pulling players back in.
The dual-wielding playstyle is the headline feature for longtime fans. The ability to fight with a weapon in each hand was cut before the game’s December 2020 launch, and players have requested it ever since. Associate game director Pawel Sasko, who is now working on the Cyberpunk sequel, told fans he is hugely excited to show what the team has cooked up for this update.
It is worth remembering how far Cyberpunk 2077 has come. The 2020 launch was one of the most troubled in gaming history, especially on consoles, but years of patches, the Phantom Liberty expansion and a PS5 Pro enhancement patch turned it into one of the most beloved RPGs of its generation. Update 2.5 continues that redemption story.
