Planet Zoo 2 Habitat Calculator: Size for Every Animal

The Planet Zoo 2 habitat calculator works out how much land, water, deep water, climbing and shelter space a group of animals needs. Pick a species, set the number of adults, and add a second species for a mixed habitat.

What the Planet Zoo 2 habitat calculator does

Every animal in Planet Zoo 2 has a minimum space it needs to stay happy. The Zoopedia shows the space for one adult and how much more each extra adult needs. That is easy for one lion. It gets hard when you plan a pride of six or a giraffe and zebra mix.

The Planet Zoo 2 habitat calculator does the adding up. It has 105 animals built in, including habitat animals, birds, and aquarium fish. Pick a species, enter the number of adults, and you get every area the habitat needs.

How the habitat size formula works

The game uses a simple formula. You start with the space for the first adult, then add a fixed amount for each extra adult. Juveniles do not add any space.

Space needed = first adult + (adults – 1) x extra per adult

For example, a Lion needs 810 mยฒ of land for one adult and 110 mยฒ for each extra adult. A pride of 4 needs 810 + 3 x 110 = 1,140 mยฒ of land, plus 40 mยฒ of shelter.

Aquarium and aviary sizes

Planet Zoo 2 adds aquariums and aviaries, and they use different space types. Fish and sharks need deep water instead of land. The Great Hammerhead needs 960 mยฒ of deep water for the first adult and 240 mยฒ more for each extra one, which makes it one of the biggest builds in the game.

Aquarium animal Deep water for 1 adult Each extra adult
Great Hammerhead 960 mยฒ +240 mยฒ
Sand Tiger Shark 420 mยฒ +240 mยฒ
Ocean Sunfish 300 mยฒ +200 mยฒ
Blacktip Reef Shark 210 mยฒ +105 mยฒ
Giant Grouper 150 mยฒ +150 mยฒ
Clown Anemonefish 50 mยฒ +15 mยฒ

Birds in aviaries need flying space as well as land. The tool shows the extra flight space each bird adds. Check the first-adult flight value in the Zoopedia, because the panel lists it separately.

Mixed habitats

Many players love a savannah with giraffes, zebras and wildebeest together. To plan one, choose a second species in the tool. It adds both groups together so you get one total for land, water and shelter.

The tool does not check if two animals can live together. Use the compatibility list in the Zoopedia for that. Also, if two species need different terrain, the game may ask for more space than the simple total.

Tips for building habitats

  • Build about 10% bigger than the minimum. It leaves room for a new adult and for paths and decorations.
  • Remember shelters. They count separately from the land area.
  • Plan for breeding. A juvenile adds no space, but it becomes an adult later.
