Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 Launches October 14: Release Date, Platforms, Price, and Everything to Know (2026)
The Emperor’s finest are back in action. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches today, October 14, 2026, bringing the retro-styled boomer shooter sequel to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also confirmed but will arrive at a later, still unannounced date.
Developed by Auroch Digital and published by Big Fan Games and Devolver Digital, Boltgun 2 picks up directly where the 2023 original left off. The first game was a surprise hit, channeling the spirit of classic Doom through the grimdark Warhammer 40,000 universe and earning an 87.43% positive review average on Steam, according to GameRant. The sequel keeps that chunky-pixel, full-speed-ahead DNA while expanding nearly every system around it.

Two playable characters, one daemonic demigod
The biggest change from the original is the second playable hero. Returning Ultramarine Sternguard Veteran Malum Caedo, voiced by Rahul Kohli, is joined by Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath, voiced by Alanah Pearce. Each has a distinct playstyle and arsenal: Caedo brings the Boltgun, Chainsword, frag grenades, and his Obliterating Charge, while the more agile Nyra wields a Power Sword and Bolt Pistol, slides through combat with her Fervent Slide, and clears crowds with Melta Bombs. Additional unlockable weapons include Flamers, Stakethrowers, and Shotguns. Despite the two heroes, Boltgun 2 remains a single-player game like its predecessor.
The story sends both characters to an isolated star system to investigate reports of increased Chaos activity, where they run into Vashtorr the Arkifane, a daemonic demigod making his video game debut. Vashtorr awakens a vast daemonic machine at the heart of a planet, triggering a catastrophic explosion that destroys much of the Imperial fleet. From there, Malum and Nyra race from world to world, from the colossal heights of a hive city to jungle mangrove swamps, cleansing the corruption powering Vashtorr’s machinery and attempting to banish him back to the Warp.
A bigger, bloodier campaign
Boltgun 2 expands the original’s linear structure into a branching campaign with more than 30 levels, meaning multiple playthroughs are needed to see everything. The enemy roster pulls from all four Chaos god factions, Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne, and Slaanesh, with over 40 new enemies added. Returning favorites like Nurglings and Chaos Cultists fight alongside new threats including Bloodletters and their Juggernauts, and boss encounters have been overhauled for more complexity and difficulty. On some levels, AI-controlled Death Korps of Krieg troops fight beside you.
Music fans get a genuine treat: Mick Gordon, the composer behind Doom (2016), Doom Eternal, and Wolfenstein: The New Order, composed the final boss battle theme, titled “Ascent of the Arkifane,” which players will hear during the fight against Vashtorr. The release date trailer, first shown during the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2026, gave the first listen to the track, and GameSpot notes it is described as a guest “cameo” appearance.
PC system requirements
According to the Steam listing, the minimum spec calls for Windows 10 or 11, an Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 8 GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 980, Radeon R9 Fury, or Intel Arc A580, with 13 GB of available storage. The recommended spec steps up to a Core i7-7700K or Ryzen 5 1500X with a GTX 1650 or RX 570, targeting 1080p High at 60 FPS.
What it means for players
Boltgun 2 arrives in one of the busiest release weeks of the fall. It shares launch week with Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, which launches on October 15, giving action fans two very different retro-flavored experiences within 24 hours of each other. Early hands-on previews, rounded up by GamerFuzion, agree on one thing: the shooting feels great, with the new second hero Nyra splitting opinion between writers calling her the star and others finding her close to Caedo with different guns.
For Warhammer 40,000 fans, the wait has been short but loud: the sequel was first teased back in May 2025, fully detailed at Gamescom 2026, and now lands just over a year later. With a budget-friendly $24.99 price point, a free demo still live on Steam, and Mick Gordon scoring the finale, Boltgun 2 looks like one of the easiest recommendations of the October release rush.
