Xiaomi 17 Ultra China vs Global: Differences, Model Numbers & Import Risks

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra China vs global comparison is different from OnePlus and Oppo, because Xiaomi makes more changes. The Chinese phone is cheaper and includes a charger, but it has no eSIM, no Android Auto, no Wear OS compatibility, and an English-only system that you cannot easily flash. The global phone has a smaller battery but fixes those problems. This guide uses Notebookcheck and Wikipedia.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra Model Numbers

We could not confirm the Chinese model number. A Notebookcheck leak cites 2512BPNDAG for a global unit. Xiaomi model numbers usually end in a letter that marks the region (C for China, G for global and I for India), so the Chinese phone should end in C, but that is the usual pattern, not a confirmed number. We will update this page when a reliable source lists it.

Why the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Is Harder to Import Than an Oppo

Notebookcheck points out that, with HyperOS, there are more restrictions at Xiaomi than at Oppo or vivo. The Chinese review unit does not have a multi-language package like the Find X9 Pro, so English is the only available system language outside China and Chinese characters remain in the system. The bootloader also cannot be opened easily, so you cannot flash an alternative firmware such as the xiaomi.eu ROM. That removes the usual fix for a Chinese Xiaomi.

What Is Missing on the Chinese Xiaomi 17 Ultra

  • eSIM.
  • Android Auto compatibility.
  • Wear OS compatibility.
  • Google services out of the box, as with other Chinese ROMs.

The good news: according to Notebookcheck there are no restrictions on LTE and 5G frequencies, so the phone works on mobile networks outside China.

Battery: 6,800 mAh vs 6,000 mAh

Wikipedia lists the Ultra with a 6,800 mAh battery in China and a 6,000 mAh battery globally, a difference of 800 mAh. The same page says the Ultra Leica Edition from China became the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi globally, with a different back design and a smaller battery. If battery life matters more to you than eSIM or Android Auto, the Chinese phone has the advantage.

Camera and Performance

GSMArena’s review says all other aspects of the global Xiaomi 17 Ultra are the same as the Chinese one, so you do not lose camera features by choosing either version. Xiaomi’s own launch video highlights a Leica 1-inch ultra dynamic camera.

Which Xiaomi 17 Ultra Should You Buy?

  • Buy the global version if you need eSIM, Android Auto, Wear OS or a warranty at home, or if you do not want a phone that you cannot flash.
  • Buy the Chinese version if you want the bigger battery, a charger in the box and a lower price, and you accept an English-only system without eSIM.

See the Chinese ROM vs Global ROM guide for other brands, and compare with the Oppo Find X9 Pro, which is easier to import.
