Gears of War: E-Day Launches October 6: Release Times, PC Specs, and Everything to Know

Gears of War: E-Day, the sixth mainline entry in Xbox’s flagship shooter series, launches worldwide on October 6, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Premium Edition owners have been playing since early access began on October 1.

Release date and launch times

The standard edition unlocks at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm BST on October 6 (3pm UTC). Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers get day-one access at the same time. The game is an Xbox console exclusive, so it will not come to PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2, but PC players can buy it on Steam or the Xbox PC app, and Xbox Play Anywhere means one purchase covers both console and PC.

What is E-Day about?

E-Day is a prequel set 14 years before the original 2006 game, during Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde first burst from underground and devastated the planet Sera. Players follow a young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago through the collapsing city of Kalona as they form Bravo Squad alongside fellow soldiers. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game supports 4-player online co-op, 2-player split-screen co-op on consoles, 4v4 competitive versus, and a brand new 12-player co-op mode called Horde Siege.

PC system requirements

The PC version needs 115GB of free SSD space, and every graphics preset requires a ray-tracing capable GPU. Minimum (1080p 60fps with upscaling): RTX 2060/5050 or RX 6600/9060 paired with a Ryzen 5 2600X, Core i7-6850K, or Core i5-10400. Recommended (1440p): RTX 3060 Ti/5060 or RX 6700 XT/9060 XT. For 4K Ultra: RTX 5070 Ti or RX 7900 XT with around 12GB of VRAM. Upscaling is handled by DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, XeSS 3.0, or TSR.

According to a Eurogamer report, developers at The Coalition fear Xbox layoffs could hit the studio shortly after launch. Story director Juan Vaca was laid off barely two weeks before release as part of Microsoft’s wider cuts, leaving the team on edge during launch week.

Early reviews describe E-Day as one of the best-reviewed games of 2026 so far and the highest-rated Gears of War since Gears of War 3 (2011), suggesting The Coalition’s return to the series’ brutal roots has landed with critics.
