Metal Sonic Is Coming to Fortnite, SEGA Teases in 35th Anniversary Stream
Metal Sonic Fortnite is coming: SEGA is not done with Fortnite. During today’s Sonic Club Chaos 35th anniversary livestream, the company confirmed its collaboration with Epic Games is still to be continued, and a brief teaser showed Metal Sonic’s glowing red eyes, revealing that the robotic villain is on his way to the Battle Royale.
Metal Sonic Fortnite: what the teaser showed
Around the 11-second mark of the teaser trailer shown during the stream, Metal Sonic’s unmistakable red eyes flash on screen before the trailer ends with the words “to be continued”. No release date, pricing or bundle details were shared, so for now this is a teaser rather than a full announcement.

The Sonic and Fortnite collaboration so far
Sonic and his friends originally joined Fortnite in August 2026 with the launch of Chapter 7 Season 4, Override. A special Fortnite Sonic comic book published by SEGA and Epic Games has been building out the crossover story, with Dr. Eggman and Geno attempting to forge a new reality using the Chaos Emeralds while Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles and Tails send robotic clones into Fortnite’s reality to stop them. The comic had already been hinting that a Metal Sonic Fortnite skin could appear later in the season.
When could the Metal Sonic skin release
There is a strong hint about timing. Metal Sonic is confirmed to appear in the story of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the live-action movie hitting theaters on March 19, 2027, as well as in the new 35th anniversary animated short Memories and Beyond arriving later this year. A Fortnite skin launch ahead of the movie would be the obvious cross-promotional play, so expect Metal Sonic to drop sometime before March 2027.
We will update this Metal Sonic Fortnite article as soon as Epic or SEGA shares an official release date.
Every Sonic collab item in Fortnite so far
The Sonic x Fortnite partnership began with Chapter 7 Season 4: Override in August 2026, bringing Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles and Tails into the game alongside a crossover comic published by SEGA and Epic. The comic’s story, with Eggman and Geno forging a new reality with the Chaos Emeralds, has been teasing robotic clones for weeks, which is exactly where a Metal Sonic Fortnite skin fits. Getting the proportions right reportedly took years of back-and-forth between the two companies, with SEGA pushing back on Epic’s first designs.
What could a Metal Sonic bundle include?
Nothing is confirmed, but Fortnite’s gaming-legends bundles usually include the skin, a back bling, a pickaxe and an emote, sometimes with an alternate style. A Metal Sonic Fortnite set could easily include his rocket-booster contrail, a Chaos Emerald back bling and a Maximum Overdrive emote. Given the movie tie-in, a bundle timed to Sonic the Hedgehog 4’s March 19, 2027 theatrical release would be the obvious play, potentially alongside the Memories and Beyond animated short later this year.
